News

Eighty English Dance Tunes is Nick's latest tunebook. The material is based on 18th and 19th manuscript sources, carefully chosen and tested as dance tunes by Nick. The book is beautifully produced and professionally printed on good quality paper with a spiral stay-flat binding. There is a wealth of additional information about the tunes and their sources interleaved with the tunes. The tunes have been transposed into straightforward keys, and the repeat structures regularised a little, but otherwise the book is faithful to the original sources.

For those who are not keen on reading printed music, there is a free downloadable version (of the music notation only) in ABC format. This allows all the tunes to be heard, as long as you have the right software (see here). This version also includes suggested chords. But of course you should buy the book as well!

Stean Cottage

Stean Cottage is a self-catering cottage, sleeping up to 9, perfectly located right at the top of upper Nidderdale.

It is a detached farmhouse cottage located in the tiny hamlet of Stean, just one mile from the village of Lofthouse in Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales. With four bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, lounge (with open fire), dining room (with woodburning stove), and full central heating, it is traditional but warm and comfortable.

If you like peace and quiet, lovely countryside, great walking, good food, country pubs – or any combination of these things, Stean is for you.

Walking: we are very close to the Nidderdale Way, a well-signposted and popular walk which circles the top of the Dale. Nidd Falls and Scar House Reservoir are close by, and Little and Great Whernside, with routes over into Wharfedale, are on our doorstep. There is a small library of maps and guide books in the cottage.

Cyclists love the area, with its maze of challenging roads, tracks and bridleways.

How Stean Gorge (our neighbour) offers canyoning, Via Ferrata, abseiling and canoeing, as well as the delights of exploring its dramatic but well-built footpaths, passing through a cave and enjoying refreshments in the café!

You can enjoy day trips to Fountains Abbey, the Black Sheep Brewery at Masham, Brimham Rocks and Stump Cross Caverns.
